FAS´ major priority is to implement de Forest Allowance (Bolsa Floresta) Program in its multiple components: income, social, family and association. The Bolsa Floresta Program is the first Brazilian internationally certified initiative to reward traditional and indigenous populations for the maintenance of the environmental services provided by the tropical forests. Environmental Services are the benefits provided by the standing forests, such as climate stability, rain maintenance, carbon storage in the trees and biodiversity conservation. Until October 2010, 7614 families have already been benefited by the Bolsa Floresta (Forest Allowance) Program with ongoing actions in 15 Conservation Units, an area of 10 million hectares.
