The Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS) participated in the seminar of the Observatório do Clima, in Brasília, yesterday (May, 5th), which assembled NGOs and the Federal Government to discuss the implementation of the 'Policy and National Plan for Climate Change' (Law 12,187/2009).

The major concern presented by the NGOs was the lack of integration among the state initiatives (e.g., in the Amazonas state) and national policies cited. "Another criticism made was on divergences of federal initiatives –  while approve this initiative, they foster harmful changes in the Brazilian Forest Code, expansion on improper buildings in the Amazon etc.”, said Thais Megid Pinto, Special Projects coordinator at FAS, who was at the event.

The Federal Government, represented by the Civil House, Ministries of Environment (MMA) and Science and Technology (MCT), shared the agenda for implementing the activities of Law 12,187/09, which must be prepared according to several related sectors and it is expected to be finalized in August.

Governmental institutions have allowed a broader public participatory increasing the civil society participation due to the reduction of consultation processes and enhancing the participatory ones.
