Yamamay, one of the largest chains in the lingerie business in Italy and worldwide, in addition to having donated 50,000 euros to the Amazonas Sustentável Foundation (FAS) at the end of last year, has demonstrated that its continued intention to invest in the sustainable development actions in the State of Amazonas. In the beginning of April, the family group that runs the company has informed that it has plans to open stores in Brazil, starting with Manaus. The announcement was made by the administration of the company in Milan to the general-director of FAS, Virgilio Viana and to the governor Eduardo Braga. On the occasion, Italian politicians, entrepreneurs and journalists got together around the representatives of State of Amazonas who are in Europe to divulge the sustainable development actions implemented by the Foundation and the State of Amazonas and search for new partnerships.
The willingness of the Italian in collaborating with FAS was acclaimed by Virgilio Viana as a sure demonstration of the fact that the actions of the Foundation have conquered the respect and the acknowledgement by various sectors in Brazil and in other countries. It is an important partnership for demonstrating the enormous potential of involving different segments of the entrepreneurial world towards the challenge of promoting the environmental conservation and the sustainable development in the Amazon region he said.
The owner of Yamamay, Don Luciano Cuccini, first knew of the Amazonas Sustentável Foundation (FAS) through a Brazilian company that purchases a good part of the Amazon jute production. He became so impressed with the activities of the Foundation that he spontaneously decided to make the donation. He now reiterates his willingness to straighten the relationship with the administration of FAS and with the government of the State of Amazonas.
On Tuesday 4, 2008, the entrepreneur showed another proof of commitment. In the morning, he gathered politicians, entrepreneurs and journalists of Galarate, where the company s headquarters are to talk about FAS. Even the city mayor, Nicola Mucci, attended the meeting and greeted the representatives from the State of Amazonas who are going beyond the mere preservation speech. On the occasion, senators and house representatives, who were getting ready for the Italian parliamentary elections, had a break on their campaigns to listen to details about FAS and the involvement of the population with environmental issues.
We work in order for them to understand that the forest is much more valuable standing up than cut down. And we have succeeded in doing this stressed Eduardo Braga in thanking the attention of the Italians to the programs developed in the State of Amazonas.
