The team of specialists from the Amazonas Sustainable Foundation (FAS) who´s been participating in the COP-14 since last week has had an important meeting with the Brazil´s environmental minister, Carlos Minc as well as his entourage.  The meeting during Minc´s press conference in Poznan, Poland - one of the busiest audience in the whole conference focused on the Amazonia National Found- was considered very profitable in terms of agreements and deals set among environmental specialists.

Virgilio Viana, the general director of FAS has spoken with the minister through a telephone call from London, where he is attending to important meetings with members of the British Parliament.  João Tezza and Luiz Villares, cientific and technical director and finance and administration director of FAS, respectively, have gone through important aspects with Carlos Minc.  "The minister is developing an important management", said Tezza.  "Minc´s attitude has surprised the international scientific committee with the goals concerning reducing emissions including the National Amazonia Found", mentioned Villares.

Carlos Minc has criticized the slow politics in order to reduce carbon emissions in developed countries.  "From the conference in Kyoto until now, carbon emissions have increased worldwide.  All developed countries measures in order to reduce that is still very little and slow.  We must have goals for the year 2020.All developed countries have set procedures in order to reduce them.  However, when you have a fuel leaking from an airplane even those who claim no guilty must help to solve the damage", compared the minister.  Following that thought, he continued: "Brazil is doing its part, continuing the last minister´s politic, Marina Silva.  Our country had no goals before.  Now, we do have which happens to be the Amazonia National Found.  Through this project the idea is to have international cooperation from developed and undeveloped countries".

The minister emphasized also that "the National Climate Changes Politic aims to reduce 70% of the deforestation by the year 2018 which is the equivalent of not releasing in the atmosphere 4.8 billion ton of carbon dioxide.  That happens to be a lot more than the goals of the developed countries according to the Kyoto protocol.  Apart from that, we also have ethanol that shall not use 1 hectare of the Amazon as well as the Pantanal region, not to mention the fact that will not use an area of agriculture".

Mantaining the prices are vital in order to guarantee extractivism procedures, declared the brazilian´s minister.  Since he joined the government, 44 management projects for extractivist protected areas have been approved.  "We´ve made important public deals with different business departments.  Soya, including its producers, are now committed in not buying the product coming from deforestated areas.  The same happens to wood producers who will only get the material from proper certified management places.  We have doubled wood offers of certified material.  That includes also mining field".
